Background and Job purpose

The HERA Service is designed to support and empower young women and gender diverse individuals (aged 10-18) to make informed choices about the emotional and physical relationships that they have and give them the confidence and emotional resilience to enact them.

The postholder will offer wide-ranging, individual and group-based support to those who have had adverse childhood experiences and are considered to be at greater risk of abusive and exploitative relationships, early sexual activity and teenage pregnancy.

Job Description/Principal Accountabilities

  • Work with potential referrers to identify appropriate referrals to the service
  • Establish positive relationships with young people and their families (if appropriate) to ensure meaningful engagement
  • Implement effective assessment, risk management and goal setting with identified young people, ensuring their voice is central to all planning
  • Develop and deliver a programme of support for each child or young person, to include delivery of the HERA Programme (or alternatives) as appropriate
  • To deliver support on an individual or group basis depending on need
  • To implement specified evaluation tools and techniques to accurately evidence the impact of the service
  • Keep clear accurate records and provide the required monitoring and evaluation information and any other progress reports required by due dates
  • Develop a good working relationship with schools, children, families, schools and other agencies to ensure that the Salus service is effective
  • Explore all opportunities for talents and interests to be developed using local resources
  • Ensure a good level of support to children, young people and families, including onward referral to other agencies where necessary
  • Attend monthly supervision for quality assurance and personal development purposes
  • Consider own training needs, keeping up to date with relevant good practice, and sharing this with team members
  • Any other duties which may reasonably be required by the Salus Management team

Experience of supporting young women vulnerable to abuse and exploitation.
• Knowledge of the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences and trauma informed practice

• Knowledge of emotional well-being and mental health for children and young people

• A clear understanding of Safeguarding and Data Protection legislation
Knowledge of strengths-based approaches
An ability to remain calm whilst working under pressure and within tight timescales on sensitive and confidential issues

• To be creative and proactive, able to use initiative and make sound judgements

• An ability to deal with a number of tasks at once and to be flexible with work routines
