Background and Job purpose

Full-time 37 hours per week contracted until 31.03.2027 : North Kent (Gravesham Dartford & Swale) & East Kent (Canterbury, Thanet & Dover)

This exciting and innovative new service provides child-centred, outcome-focused support for children and young people, from birth to and up to 25 years old with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), residing in safe accommodation because of domestic abuse.

Within this role you will mainly work with children and young people (and their families) on a 1:1 basis to improve well-being. The support will be highly creative, child-led and focused on recovery through overcoming challenges and developing strengths, talents, interests, ambitions and support networks.

The postholder will have a degree level qualification in a related area and experience of working with children and young people who have experienced trauma.

Due to the geographical area that this role covers, a driver would be preferred.

Job Description/Principal Accountabilities

1. Work with potential referrers to identify appropriate referrals to the service.

2. Implement effective assessment and goal setting with identified children and young people.

3. Develop a programme of support for each child or young person, to include delivery of the evidence-based programmes for resilience, healthy relationships etc (as appropriate).

4. Work creatively to capture the voices of children and young people and ensure that participation and co-production are core aspects of the service.

5. Develop a good working relationship with schools, children, families, and other agencies to ensure that the Salus service is effective.

6. Provide relevant support for school-based staff and staff in other universal settings to ensure identified children and young people are supported across these settings.

7. Work directly with parents to ensure that they are better able to understand/ support their child’s needs and support the development of resilience and improved well-being.

8. Explore all opportunities for talents and interests to be developed using local resources.

9. Ensure a good level of support to children, young people and families, including onward referral to other agencies where necessary.

10. Keep clear accurate records and provide the required monitoring and evaluation information and any other progress reports required by due dates.

11. Implement evaluation tools to demonstrate impact of intervention.

12. Attend monthly supervision with for quality assurance and personal development purposes.

13. Consider own training needs, keeping up to date with relevant good practice, and sharing this with team members.

14. Any other duties which may reasonably be required by the Salus Management Team.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESExperience of supporting children and young who have experienced trauma

Experience of supporting parents to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people

Experience of working effectively with schools and other agencies

A good understanding of agencies and support available for families in Kent

Strong organisational ability including ability to plan workload and manage own time effectively

A high level of written and verbal presentation skills and ICT skills

Skilled in ensuring the voice of the child is central to the service
Experience of supporting children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse
KNOWLEDGEKnowledge of the impact of trauma on children and young
people

Knowledge of emotional well-being and mental health for children and young people

Knowledge of approaches to build resilience

An understanding of Safeguarding and Data Protection legislation
Knowledge of strengths based approaches
