Background and Job purpose

We are currently seeking a Senior Integrated Youth Officer to coordinate and deliver our range of centre and street-based youth services in the district of Folkestone and Hythe. This will include youth work, planning, delivery and management of some staff. The role will involve working alongside our partners and directly with young people and agencies, offering services and support with an aim to improve young people’s emotional health and well-being.

We are looking for a talented individual, experienced in supervising a team and working directly with young people in creative and innovative ways to achieve the best possible outcomes. This post will require energy and enthusiasm to ensure the success of this highly valued service.

Job Description/Principal Accountabilities

  • Provide line management and Supervision to the youth work team, including Integrated youth workers, youth workers, admin staff and sessional staff.
  • To work alongside partner agencies and commissioners, attending and feeding into relevant multi-agency meetings to identify and support those young people and areas highlighted as priority need.
  • To actively engage and positively promote the participation of young people, their families, schools/settings and communities in service design, delivery and evaluation.
  • To ensure the effective delivery of a range of youth led, positive activities for young people in specified geographical area through both direct delivery and alternative providers.
  • To work alongside young people to run community projects and events to fund raise for the young people’s larger day trips and residentials.
  • To deliver evidence-based activities to improve the emotional health and well-being of targeted young people.
  • To undertake ‘street based’ support to maximise the reach of the programme and target some of the harder to reach groups.
  • To establish and maintain an effective mentoring service, using community volunteers, for targeted young people.
  • To plan, risk assess and oversee residential/exchange opportunities as required.
  • To facilitate access for young people to a range of other services that
    may meet their needs e.g. sexual health services, information, advice
    and guidance etc.
  • To ensure young people feel safe and are safeguarded, by ensuring safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • To actively promote the success of young people and ensure positive
    relationships between young people, the wider community and
    schools/settings.
  • To support families to access information, advice and guidance and
    enable them to access services as required.
  • To forge excellent relationships with schools and other education
    providers to ensure continuity for the young person.
  • To support the development of the youth centres as community hubs.
  • To keep accurate and up to date records of own work undertaken and
    outcomes achieved and audit the work and outcomes achieved by others in the youth work team.
  • To be responsible for the social media account and utilising the web and social media to ensure information is accessible and there is a positive presence from the service.

You should demonstrate on your application form how you meet the following essential criteria

A JNC qualification in youth and community work, or a Level 5 or relevant qualification such as social work with extensive experience of youth work.
Experience of line management, desirable that this is within a youth work setting but not essential.
Experience of working with a range of partner agencies including commissioners.
Significant experience of working with young people in youth work setting.
Experience of delivering services to improve the emotional health and wellbeing of young people in a range of settings.
Experience of planning, delivering and providing evaluation data of youth work programmes, including accrediting young people’s achievements.
Experience of working effectively with other professionals in order to
deliver services for young people.
Knowledge of relevant legislation and principles underpinning good
Practice.
Understanding of the issues that impact on the lives of young people
and have good knowledge of the risk and protective factors such as
drug use, crime and anti-social behaviour.
Ability to facilitate training to the children’s workforce.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, including the
ability to collate information, produce reports and accurate case
records of work undertaken.
Ability to organise and prioritise work and to work independently.
Ability to work flexibly outside normal office hours, including evening
and weekends, residential visits as required.
Ability to travel across Kent in a timely manner.
