Background and Job purpose

As a Youth Community Development Worker, you will engage with young people in Hythe, designing and delivering activities that support their personal, social, and educational development. You will play a vital role in fostering relationships, identifying needs, and implementing youth-focused projects that enhance community engagement. Your responsibilities will include planning and delivering structured youth work sessions, providing guidance, support, and advocacy to young people, and working in collaboration with Hythe Town Council to develop youth engagement initiatives. You will identify gaps in services and propose creative solutions, organise events and workshops that promote well-being, personal development, and life skills, and build relationships with local schools, community groups, and organizations. Encouraging young people to participate in community decision-making and ensuring safeguarding and health & safety procedures are adhered to will also be key aspects of your role.

We are seeking someone with experience in delivering youth work in a community setting, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to engage young people effectively. Knowledge of safeguarding and youth work best practices, flexibility to work evenings and weekends when required, and a relevant qualification in Youth Work, Community Development, or equivalent experience are essential. It would be desirable if you have experience working with local authorities or town councils and knowledge of funding opportunities for youth projects.

Job Description/Principal Accountabilities

• Design, plan, and deliver structured youth work sessions and activities for young people aged 5 to 25.
• Build relationships with young people to provide guidance, support, and advocacy where needed.
• Work collaboratively with Hythe Town Council to develop and implement youth engagement initiatives that align with local community needs.
• Identify gaps in youth services and propose solutions to enhance support and provision.
• Organise and facilitate events, workshops, and projects that promote personal development, well-being, and life skills.
• Engage with key stakeholders, including schools, community groups, and local organisations, to foster partnerships that benefit young people.
• Promote participation in local decision-making processes, encouraging young people to have a voice in their community.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of youth work initiatives, reporting progress to Salus and Hythe Town Council.
• Ensure safeguarding and health & safety procedures are followed in all activities and interventions.
