Support for children and young people experiencing moderate emotional wellbeing challenges – COMING SOON

What is this service?

COMING SOON: This service will be available from April 2026. Watch this space for additional information and how to make a referral.

The new Kent Children and Young People’s Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Therapeutic Alliance (KTA), commissioned by NHS Kent and Medway, will support children and young people who would benefit from support to improve their emotional wellbeing and mental health.

This is a collaborative approach, delivered in partnership with:

Growing up can be full of changes and challenges. Many children and young people will navigate this with the support that they have around them, but some will need extra help.

The KTA will work within the i-THRIVE Framework within the quadrants of ‘getting help’, and ‘further support’, to make sure that children and young people can access the support that they need to help improve their emotional wellbeing and mental health. More information about i-THRIVE can be found here: i-THRIVE – Kent Resilience Hub.

Specifically, this service will support those who need:

  • Getting help: Children and young people who would benefit from brief, focussed, evidence-based support with clear goals.
  • Further Support: Children, young people whose needs cannot be met by advice, signposting, or brief interventions alone, whose needs are significantly impacting their daily life, and who require more structured, ongoing support.

Who is it for?

The KTA will be available for all children and young people who:

  • are aged 4–17*
  • live in Kent and/or attend a Kent education setting and are registered to a Kent GP.
  • are experiencing moderate emotional well-being or mental health needs
  • would benefit from a brief period of early intervention or support
  • are not at immediate risk of suicide and/or significant self-harming behaviour
  • are able to access support either face to face, online or by telephone

Moderate emotional well-being and mental health needs have a noticeable impact on daily life across different environments. The needs are likely to be ongoing or persistent and risk, while still not high, has the potential to escalate.

* Continued support may be available up to age 25 for some young people. Please enquire for more detail.

What does it offer?

The KTA will provide a wide range of evidence-based, flexible, accessible support options. This includes therapeutic, targeted and psychoeducation interventions, depending on the needs and wishes of the child, young person and their family.

Some examples of the areas we will offer support for are:

  • anxiety
  • depression or low mood
  • self-harm
  • risk-taking thoughts and behaviours
  • self-esteem, self-confidence or resilience difficulties
  • traumatic grief or complex bereavement
  • exam or transition related stress
  • relationship difficulties

We will be led by the child or young person so, support may be group-based or 1-1 and will be offered face-to-face, virtually or via telephone; in spaces they feel most comfortable in.
