A restorative justice approach is a dynamic and exciting concept dealing with conflict at all levels, and is currently being used in communities, schools, care homes, foster home, police service, prisons and youth offending services to great effect.

A range of training opportunities are available, including twilight sessions (1.5 hours, Kent only), 1 Day and 3 Day training, as well as bespoke training to meet the needs of the setting. This includes training for staff, governors, midday meal supervisors, as well as children and young people.

Salus has been delivering Restorative Approaches training across the UK for over 10 years and is a Registered Training Provider with the Restorative Justice Council (RJC). The 3 Day Skills-based Practitioner training course has also achieved additional recognition as a Registered Approved Course (Foundation level).

Learning Objectives

All training aims for participants to:

• Gain knowledge of restorative justice and to consider how it is applied in a variety of settings.
• Explore alternative methods of behaviour management that avoids confrontation and escalation.

Longer courses may also include additional aims such as:

• To explore the dynamics of conflict and understand the range of needs that are involved when things go wrong.
• To learn de-escalation strategies and key skills in active listening to help restore and repair.
• To practice a range of skills in the use of restorative language and effective questioning to promote positive communication between parties in conflict, including restorative conferences.
