Background and Job purpose

This exciting and innovative new service will provide child-centred, outcome-focused, specialist support for children and young people, from birth to and up to 25 years old with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), residing in safe accommodation because of domestic abuse. This may include refuge, Sanctuary Schemes, move-on accommodation, and dispersed accommodation.

The role of the Participation and Engagement Worker is highly creative. The postholder will proactively engage children, young people and their families who are entering safe accommodation, ensuring that their needs can be met, capturing their voices about ways in which the service could develop, overcoming barriers, evaluating the impact of support and establishing group-based practitioner and peer-led support groups.

The postholder will have a degree level qualification in a related area and experience of working with children and young people who have experienced trauma, including Domestic Abuse.

Location: North and West Kent

Due to the geographical area that this role covers, a driver would be preferred.

Job Description/Principal Accountabilities

Principal Accountabilities

1. Work with district councils, housing providers, KCC and other partners to promote the service and encourage referrals for appropriate children and young people.
2. Proactively engage children, young people and their families who are entering safe accommodation to ensure they are aware of the service.
3. Work respectfully and tenaciously to establish positive relationships with CYP and their families to secure meaningful engagement and understand their needs.
4. Maintain relationships with children and young people not yet ready to participate fully in the service.
5. Work creatively to capture the voices of children and young people and ensure that participation and co-production are core aspects of the service.
6. Explore all opportunities for talents and interests to be developed using local resources.
7. Facilitate group-based practitioner and peer led support groups.
8. Ensure a good level of support to children, young people and families, including onward referral to other agencies where necessary.
9. Implement specified evaluation tools and techniques to accurately evidence the impact of the service.
10. Keep clear accurate records and provide the required monitoring and evaluation information and any other progress reports required by due dates.
11. Attend monthly supervision for quality assurance and personal development purposes.
12. Consider own training needs, keeping up to date with relevant good practice, and sharing this with team members.
13. Any other duties which may reasonably be required by the Salus Management Team.
    

NOTE: It is encouraged that the support is offered outside of school hours to minimise disruption to education (Monday to Friday) and delivered at times and venues that most suit the children and young people; this means after 3:30pm on weekdays or at weekends.
