Support for Children and Young People living in Safe Accommodation

What is this service?

The Domestic Abuse Safe Accommodation Support Service offers support to children and young people who are victims and survivors of domestic abuse and are living in safe accommodation.

This can be:

  • Refuge
  • Dispersed accommodation (standalone, self-contained & support)
  • Second stage accommodation (move on accommodation)
  • Specialist safe accommodation
  • Other DA emergency accommodation
  • Property subject to a Sanctuary Scheme

Who is it for?

The service is for Children and Young People from birth-18 years and up to 25 years for Young People with special educational needs and disability.

What does it offer?

The service provides a child-centred, outcome-focused approach to supporting children and young people who are victims and survivors of domestic abuse. We know every child and young person is different and we will work closely with them to understand their needs and aims and goals.

From this we can then explore the support that is needed. This may include:

  • Therapeutically informed 1-1 support from an appropriately qualified practitioner
  • Group based support
  • Development of talents and interests and support to access activities/social groups
  • Re-establishing a sense of routine and familiar activities
  • Multi-agency engagement and advocacy

Support is focused on helping children and young people to become more resilient, have better emotional health, health and well-being and develop local support systems.

Where is it available?

The service is available countywide across Kent.
