Youth Service

Salus believes in giving access to community based facilities and a diverse range of activities to improve young people’s social skills, emotional health and wellbeing. We work hard to offer both a universal and targeted approach to our youth provision and recognise the value of working with young people at risk of social exclusion. We aim to engage and build positive relationships with families, the wider community and partners, to empower them as active partners in the delivery of our services.

We offer both centre based and outreach facilities within the areas in which we work.  Currently these are: Maidstone District and Shepway District.  All sessions are delivered by trained integrated youth workers alongside sessional and volunteer youth workers, with further support from young leaders. We also deliver services from our new Big Blue Bus – see below for further information

We offer opportunities to gain accredited qualifications including:

  • UK Youth – Youth Achievement Awards
  • Sportsleader UK Courses
  • GB Boxing Awards
  • Basic First Aid

Shepway Youth and Community Centre and Hythe Youth Centre are also registered as Arts Award Centres.

Big Blue Bus

Salus have bought a ‘Big Blue Bus’ (a retired service bus) that has been extensively fitted out to be suitable for a  variety of projects and initiatives. The bus has a private meeting area, kitchen facilities, CCTV, an area to socialise, an enclosable heated outside area and is currently being equipped with various equipment including computer games consoles and large screens. The Big Blue Bus is regularly used for youth provision and outreach health services.

The Big Blue Bus can be hired along with a driver for any suitable organisation to take their initiatives to their target audience.
